Started in 1979, the team has been utilized to resolve several barricaded gunman/hostage situations, search for escaped prisoners being held on murder and other violent felony charges, provide VIP security protection for visiting government officials. On one occasion, they were called out to rescue two police officers wounded and pinned down by gunfire from a military-trained sniper during an ambush.
